Sugar n Spice

Olaudah Equiano Ignatius Sancho

Sugar 'n Spice

Saturday 27 October 2007
This drama was produced by CETTIE and funded by Westminster Arts, and was performed by Victor Romero Evans, Halima Bryan, Melanie Charles and Shango Baku. It celebrated the lives of Ignatius Sancho and Olaudah Equiano who were African abolitionists who worked and lived in 18th century Westminster. Though very different in lifestyle and background they were linked by a horrific trade that brought them to Britain in the service of their ‘owners’. They both achieved freedom in their lifetime, and left written testimony of their personal histories.

This event also took place earlier on at the Westminster Archives Centre.

Mr Hudson & the Library visit Westminster Reference Library...

Mr Hudson and the Library in Westminster Reference Library: full sized image availableThursday 19 July 2007
The aptly named Mr Hudson & the Library provided some excellent entertainment in front of a sellout crowd on the Ground Floor of Westminster Reference library. James was one of those lucky enough to attend, and seemed thoroughly impressed...

"On Thursday 19th July live music truly arrived in Westminster Libraries. An audience numbering over a hundred was treated to a blend of rock, soul and reggae in the shape of Mr Hudson and the Library. The band, having already undertaken a tour of UK libraries, seemed perfectly at home belting out crowd-pleasing tunes in the normally hushed surroundings of Westminster Reference Library. Many congratulations to Rosella for organising such a successful event."
