We are responsible for taking notice of marriages that will take place between people living in the City of Westminster. The marriage may take place in Westminster Register Office, any other register office in England or Wales, approved premises in England or Wales, churches other than the Church of England, or any other country or place allowed by law.
We are responsible for performing and registering all civil (non-religious) marriages taking place in the City of Westminster. We are also responsible for registering marriages in churches other than the Church of England.
We hold records of births, deaths and marriages, which took place in the City of Westminster, from 1837. We can give you certified copies of these records if you pay the legal fee. A certified copy is not a photocopy and can be used for legal purposes.
We also provide advice and help on re-registering births and correcting the legal records which may have to be processed through the General Register Office.
