Carbon emissions reporting
Find out more about the council's carbon emissions.
We declared a climate emergency in September 2019 setting out ambitious targets for the council to be net zero carbon by 2030. To help track progress against this target we have begun monitoring emissions annually.
How we measure our emissions
The first step towards this was establishing an emissions baseline for the year 2018/19. This involved identifying the sources of emissions across council activity. The sources of emissions can be broken down into three types:
- Scope 1 – direct emissions arising from Council activities, for example, fuel usage from Council owned vehicles, natural gas usage in the council run Pimlico District Heating Undertaking
- Scope 2 – indirect emissions from the purchase of energy, for example, electricity generated at a site not owned or under control of the Council
- Scope 3 – indirect emissions occurring anywhere within the Councils supply chain, for example, fuel usage of external contractors
Emissions dashboard
The dashboard is a way to inform residents and other stakeholders about the progress the council and wider city are making towards achieving our net zero targets.
It shows the breakdown of the council’s carbon emissions for the last financial year, as well as boroughwide emissions taken from the London Energy and Greenhouse Gas Inventory (LEGGI).
