Information about hate crimes and how to report them

There is no place for hate in Westminster.

A hate crime is defined as 'any criminal offence which is perceived by the victim or any other person, to be motivated by hostility or prejudice'.

This can be based on a:

• person's race or perceived race
• religion or perceived religion
• sexual orientation or perceived sexual orientation
• disability or perceived disability
• any crime motivated by hostility or prejudice against a person who is transgender or perceived to be transgender.

If you have been  the subject of a hate crime, the police advise the following: 

• if someone is in immediate danger or needs support right away, then dial 999 
• hate crimes can be reported online by calling 101 or at a police station 
• you can also report crime anonymously through CrimeStoppers
