Electrical substation fire - Maida Vale

3pm update, 30 April 2025

On the 29 April fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters attended a fire at an electrical substation on Aberdeen Place in Maida Vale.

Firefighters discovered an electrical transformer that was alight. The fire has been extinguished and the London Fire Brigade are working closely with UK Power Networks and the Metropolitan Police to investigate the cause of the fire. Local road closures are in place to facilitate this investigation.

Around 100 people were evacuated from surrounding buildings and a rest centre was set up by the local authority to provide initial support. Alternative accommodation has been provided to affected residents and the council continues to offer support to those affected.

  • St John's Wood Road Junction with Cunningham Road
  • Aberdeen Place Junction with Northwick Terrace
