Update on the application for the UK Holocaust Memorial

Westminster City Council has today (31 January 2020), published the papers for its planning committee scheduled for 11 February 2020 that includes the application for a new proposed Holocaust Memorial and Learning Centre in Victoria Tower Gardens. 

The council does not have the authority to determine the planning application for the UK Holocaust Memorial and Learning Centre because it was 'called in' by the government in November 2019 and so a final decision will be taken by the Secretary of State, following a planning public inquiry later this summer, which is a process independent from the council. This meeting of Westminster’s planning committee on 11 February will confirm the council’s position on the application which will then form part of the public inquiry.

However, the planning committee will consider the planning application and Westminster’s views will be submitted to the public inquiry.

Update on the UK Holocaust Memorial and Learning Centre planning application

A pre-inquiry meeting is to be held on 10 March 2020 at Westminster City Hall pursuant to Rule 7 of The Town and Country Planning (Inquiries Procedure) (England) Rules 2000 SI 2000/1624.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss procedural arrangements to be followed at the inquiry (due to open on 27 May) itself (for example the numbers of witnesses each party will be calling, how long their evidence is expected to take etc).

There will not be any discussion about whether or not the UK Holocaust Memorial and Learning Centre should or should not be granted planning permission.

The meeting will be presided by the inspector: David Morgan BA MA MRTPI IHBC.
