Westminster City Council is pleased to announce the rollout of new recycling and rubbish bins for residents in Queen’s Park, Harrow Road, and Westbourne wards. Following a successful trial in March 2022 on Ilbert Street in Queen’s Park, this initiative aims to enhance waste management and boost recycling rates within the community.

Between the end of July until October 2024, residents of suitable properties in these wards will receive two 110-litre bins: a blue bin for mixed recycling (paper and cardboard, plastic bottles and pots, glass bottles and jars, metal tins/cans, cartons, and aerosols) and a black bin for household rubbish.

Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg, Cabinet Member for City Management and Air Quality said:

This is an important step forward in our efforts to improve waste management and recycling rates in Westminster. By providing these new bins, we are making it easier for residents to recycle and dispose of their household waste responsibly. Our goal is to increase recycling participation and ensure our streets remain clean and tidy."

The new bins are part of WCC's broader commitment to a Fairer Environment, encouraging sustainable practices among residents, and aiming to improve how mixed recycling and household rubbish are stored at residential properties. The initiative is expected to increase recycling practises by making the process convenient.

Residents in Queen’s Park ward will be the first to receive information on how to use their new bins with containers delivered from late July to early August. Due to the diverse housing stock in Westminster, not all properties in the three wards will receive the bins. There are no current plans at this stage to extend the program to other wards.

Please do not put batteries, vapes or small electrical items in either of your bins. These items can cause fires in our vehicles.
