About the service

Westminster Family Information Service is a free, confidential, and impartial information, advice, and signposting service for children and young people aged 0 to 19 (or up to 25 for those with additional needs), their families, and the professionals who work with them.

The service offers guidance and information about:

  • nurseries and childminders
  • funded early education and childcare, and help towards childcare costs
  • family hubs (children's centres) and library services
  • careers in childcare: becoming a childminder
  • out-of-school-hours clubs
  • activities and services for children, young people, and families.

Queen's Park Family Hub

About the service

There are three Family Hubs in Westminster. They provide the following services:

  • health visitors play a critical role in assessing and supporting the mental health and well-being of women and their families. They provide comprehensive care by offering preventative health promotion, delivering targeted support, implementing evidence-based interventions, and making timely referrals to specialist mental health services when necessary
  • support for both parents with perinatal mental health
  • midwifery
  • stay and play sessions: every day
  • outreach support in the home
  • health promotion, for example, support to stop smoking
  • access to a range of support provided by the local voluntary sector
  • Home Start, Family Centres
  • parenting groups and one-to-one support.
  • adult learning, for example, ESOL classes
  • baby massage and baby zone

About the service

Maternity Champions programme works with new and expectant parents with babies from 0 to one year old across five hubs in Westminster. Maternity Champions are trained local people who volunteered to provide support by informing parents and signposts to local services.

The programme offers support through trained local volunteers who provide information and breastfeeding support, facilitate peer networks, and help improve wellbeing to reduce isolation. Maternity Champions also supports partner organisations in collecting feedback and broadening services for new and expectant parents.

Paddington Arts

About the service

Paddington Arts(link is external) is an arts and media centre for young people.

Paddington Arts classes are designed for amateur, intermediate, and advanced participants. All classes are split into age brackets: six to 10 year olds, 11 to 15 year olds, and 16 to 26 year olds.

The centre delivers:
• dance activities for age groups six to 10, 11 to 15 and 16 to 22
• emotional support programme for ages 8 to 18
• wellbeing programme for girls' group
• health advice and signposting for children and families

Paddington Arts takes a holistic approach to child development - they believe mental, physical, and emotional health are all connected. The creative activities offer teamwork, skills development, and self-expression, which lead to an increase in self-confidence and self-esteem. There are opportunities to perform at their centre and other local and community festivals.

Families and Communities Employment Service (FACES)

About the service

The Families and Communities Employment Service (FACES) offers professional and friendly one-to-one support for work, training, or education.

They aim to deliver a holistic approach to families and young people who want to get into work and/or education.

The service often works with those who have been out of work for long periods, young people, those with a history of mental health, and those facing generational worklessness.

FACES aims to help clients by signposting them where applicable and breaking down any potential barriers preventing them from working or attending school.
