The Think Trauma Awards programme recognises the innovative work schools have done to implement a trauma-informed approach to improving pupil relationships and behaviour.

In 2021, we were delighted to recognise the first three schools to achieve the Bronze award at our first Think Trauma Awards ceremony. Since then, two schools have upgraded to Silver level, one of which subsequently achieved Gold.

The current schools which have Think Trauma awards are as follows:

Bronze schools

Hallfield Primary School

Westminster Education Centre

St Augustine’s CE Primary School

Marylebone Boys School

Silver schools

Westminster Academy

Gold schools

St Augustine’s CE High School

Why does a trauma-informed approach matter?

Trauma-informed approaches seek to understand the reasons behind a child’s behaviour so that support provided for children and families can be tailored to make achievable and sustainable changes.

Designed by schools and trauma-informed practitioners and reflecting key considerations, the three-level framework assesses schools’ levels of development in this area.

Be recognised as a trauma-informed school

Being recognised as a trauma-informed school is another way to differentiate between the qualities of different schools in Westminster. It also means a school has thought carefully and made additional plans around a particular approach to becoming a place where children and young people develop healthy attachments, learn how to regulate their emotions and develop the resilience to thrive

The Think Trauma Awards are designed for schools to develop best practices in this area and to share their learnings with other Westminster schools. To be considered for an award, the school will need to provide evidence of trauma-informed or trauma-aware practice in the following areas:

  • governance
  • awareness and training
  • the school environment
  • policies
