On the morning of Friday 2nd October 1874, exactly 150 years ago, a canal boat filled with tons of gunpowder blew up on the canal in Regent's Park.

This enormous explosion was five times as big as the Gunpowder Plot, blew up the bridge and reduced its bricks to rubble. The noise of the explosion was heard as far as ten or twelve miles away, and London had never experienced the like.

Our speaker from the London Canal Museum will explore the shock, drama, tragedy, and consequences of this disaster.
