Every year since 1947, the people of Oslo have gifted the people of London a Norwegian spruce Christmas Tree as a token of Norway's gratitude for Britain’s support during the Second World War.
The tree lighting ceremony takes place on the first Thursday in December each year and will includes performances from the Salvation Army, St. Martin-in-the-Fields and poetry readings.
The tree will be on display in Trafalgar Square until Monday 6 January, before being recycled and used as mulch in gardens around the city.
