Food safety
When eating out, check the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) score of the food establishment. You can view all scores on the Food Standards Agency website. Just type in the name and address of the food business.
Food Hygiene Rating Scores range from 0 (urgent improvement required) to 5 (very good).
Preparing your Christmas turkey
When preparing Christmas turkey at home, remember to:
- thoroughly defrost your turkey before cooking unless the label states it can be cooked from frozen
- do not wash raw meat in the sink ,as this can spread harmful bacteria
- cook the turkey thoroughly according to the instructions, ensuring it is steaming hot and cooked all the way through - the juices should run clear, with no pink meat visible
- wash your hands with soap after handling raw poultry and clean any surfaces or equipment that has come into contact with raw meat
If you have any food safety concerns you wish to report, you can do so by using Report it.
