Responsible parties
Many of us like to have a party with family and friends to celebrate the festive period and when seeing in the New Year. Our party celebrations may unintentionally cause disruption and annoyance to neighbouring residents. This is especially true in high-density urban areas such as Westminster. Some points to consider if you intend to have a celebration/party over the festive period:
- warn your neighbours in advance, being specific about what time you intend the music and party to start and finish.
- stick to the times you have set out – remember to be reasonable
- keep the music indoors and at a reasonable level. When it gets later, and your neighbours are expected to be able to sleep, lower the music to levels that cannot be heard outside of your property.
- keep windows and doors shut where possible.
- make sure that you monitor your guests and that their behaviour does not annoy your neighbours. Ensure that they stay within your property and leave quietly.
- If one of your neighbours complains, turn the music down.
If you are disturbed by a late-night party over the festive period and you are unable to resolve it by speaking to your neighbours, you can contact us by letting us know using Report it or call us on 0207 641 2000.
