How to apply or renew a licence
You must be the proprietor or a trustee of the premises to apply for approval to hold civil ceremonies or weddings.

All applications must include:
- a plan of the premises clearly identifying the rooms where ceremonies will occur
- written consent from the appropriate governing body, if you want approval for a if you want approval for a religious premises
Which governing body you must get written consent from
Roman Catholic Church, place of meeting for religious worship
- Consent needed from General Secretary of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales
Church of England, church or chapel
- Consent needed from General Synod
Church in Wales, church or chapel
- Consent needed from Governing Body of the Church in Wales
Methodist Church, place of meeting for religious worship
- Consent needed from Conference of the Methodist Church
Society of Friends, place of meeting for members
- Consent not required.
