City cycle courses
Find out about free cycling training for anyone who lives, works or studies in Westminster.
We're committed to making cycling safe, enjoyable and practical.
We offer free city cycling courses to anyone who lives, works or studies in Westminster. Sessions are available for individuals or groups and are tailored to your riding experience and needs.
The courses are run by Cycle Confident, an approved provider of Bikeability cycle training.
Adult courses
First-time bike riders or regular cyclists looking to improve their skills are welcome.
You’ll receive up to two hours of one-to-one training with a qualified and insured instructor, who will tailor the session to your abilities and goals.
You can book your session for a time and place that suits you and your assigned instructor. Book your adult training session.
While wearing a helmet remains a matter of personal choice, we strongly recommend you wear one when cycling. Your instructor will be happy to give you advice on helmets as part of the training.
Group courses
Group training sessions are designed for people who are new to cycling or who want to learn again from scratch.
Sessions take place on weekends in an off-road area. They are an ideal way to get started in a fun group environment before moving on to a one-to-one session.
Bicycles and helmets are provided. Book your place at a group session.
Schools courses
We offer schools sessions for years 3 and 4 that teach good bike control (Bikeability Level 1), how a bike works and get children excited about cycling through a set of fun playground games.
In years 5 and 6, we offer 5 two-hour sessions that incorporate Bikeability Level 1 and Bikeability Level 2 training. These take place on quiet roads near the school. Children learn bike control, basic rules of the road and a wealth of other useful information that gets them started as safe and responsible road users. Book a session at your school.
Bike Maintenance Lessons
Do you want to know how to keep your bike in good order? This £15 session covers basic bike maintenance including:
- wheel removal
- puncture repair
- brake adjustment
- gear alignment
- lubrication of key parts.
A little knowledge goes a long way and this course will pay for itself many times over in a very short time as well as making your riding experience more comfortable. Book a maintenance class.
