How you travel

Find out ways to reduce your carbon emissions by making some small changes to how you travel.

Cycling

Whether you are an experienced cyclist or have never cycled in your life, there is support to get you cycling in Westminster.

Cycle training

We offer cycle training for adults and children, whether you are a resident, a commuter or even a visitor to Westminster. We also offer training on how to keep your bike well maintained.

Bike hire and cycle loan

There are also lots of places you can hire a bike through the Santander Cycle Hire scheme run by TfL. We are working with TfL to expand this scheme into the Harrow Road and Kensal Rise areas.

The Try Before You Bike scheme is an innovative and flexible cycle loan programme that lets you borrow a bicycle from a range of models, including folding, electrics and cargo bikes, before committing to buying. Additional support available for residents on low incomes.

Cycle routes

We are building up a network of sign plated cycle routes. These are designed to cater to both experienced and inexperienced riders. We are also expanding our cycle routes.

Cycle hangers

We are at an early stage of providing on-street residential cycle hangars, but this will take some time to grow. If you own your own bike and have no internal storage at home you can apply for a place in one of these units. However, please be patient as we build up this provision.

Westminster Wheels

As a bike owner, and especially if you live around Church Street and Maida Vale, you can use our Westminster Wheels service to get your bike checked over for just £45. You can also donate your old bike to Westminster Wheels. Finally, you can get basic repairs done for free on your bike by visiting one of the Dr Bike pop-up events held all year round on key cycle routes across London.

Zero Emissions Network

As a partner of the Zero Emissions Network, there is a range of free offers, free trials, information and advice for businesses and residents in Westminster, to support sustainable modes of transport.
