Children in employment and entertainment

A child under the age of 16 will need a performance licence from the council, before they can perform.

Chaperones

Chaperones must get approval from the council or local authority where they live.

All children who require a performance licence must be chaperoned by either the child’s parents or legal guardian, or an approved adult.

Relatives are not permitted to chaperone a child unless they hold an approval.

Applying for chaperone approval

We can only consider an approval to be a chaperone if:

  • you live within City of Westminster
  • you are over the age of 18

To apply for a chaperone approval, please download the chaperone application form below, or contact the child employment and licensing officers on 020 7745 6612 or 020 7745 6441.

Please note that a DBS and necessary reference checks will be undertaken before approval.

Application process

Please submit the application form below for processing. You will be contacted within 10 working days to arrange an appointment.

Chaperone licences are valid for 1 year in the first instance for new approvals. For renewals, approvals are valid for 3 years unless revoked, and should be carried at all times when chaperoning children.
