Homelessness

How we help people who are or are at risk of becoming homeless.

Community Prevention Team

From 1st April 2025, the Homeless Prevention Service previously delivered by Shelter as part of the Places for People partnership will be delivered directly by Westminster City Council, through the Community Prevention Team. Existing service users will have been contacted and offered the opportunity to transition to the new service. If you have any questions please contact the team by email: CommunityPrevention@Westminster.gov.uk(link sends email)

Who is this service for?

This service is for people living in the borough or with a local connection to the City of Westminster, who are at risk of homelessness. We aim to help residents with early interventions to prevent homelessness.

  • help if you are being asked to leave your home, for example, family have asked you to leave or you have received a notice from your landlord
  • advice and support around general housing options and how to access alternative accommodation
  • help if you are having issues with the affordability of your home, for example, rent arrears and other debt
  • help with benefit applications and issues

  • problems with the conditions of your home such as disrepair
