Billie, volunteer at Mayfair Library
Libraries have become that central hub.
My name is Billie. I volunteer at the library. I give my time to teach jewellery making, which is fabulous. It’s always nice to give a little back.
Lots of people work from home nowadays but to be able to pop into a different space, take a breather, find a book, find an audiobook, see what’s happening locally, there are so many good things about the library.
For me it’s a wonderful place, especially if you are working on something. If you want some new, fresh ideas and you’re tired of scrolling through computers, you can come to the library, talk to the librarians, see what they have to offer. You get a connection and some ideas from the books that you cannot always find on the internet.
Libraries do so much more than they used to do now. Not everyone has a computer at home and the libraries are a perfect resource.
Libraries are great because, especially in the city, we don’t have community centres and libraries have become that central hub where you can get together.
