Project outline

This project has been organised to help residents using gas to move over to using electric to cook with. The Council will support residents through this change and provide new cookers or hobs free of charge.

The reasons for doing this work are set out below. A series of meetings and drop ins are being arranged where you can find out more and ask any questions of the team organising the work.

The Building Safety Act has brought in the need for a greater focus on residents and increased the responsibilities for landlords looking after high rise buildings. In addition to changes in legislation, six of the blocks at Warwick and Brindley estate are of Large Panel Concrete System (LPCS) construction.

Under new national regulations, gas must be phased out of buildings with certain types of construction. This includes blocks made of Large Panel Concrete Systems as this type of building carries greater risk of structural collapse in the event of a gas explosion than blocks of standard construction. Unfortunately, this means that under these new regulations gas can no longer be supplied to your block.

Cadent, the company that owns the gas network, will need to stop supplying gas to your home in the coming weeks
