How we've assessed the options
Since 2017/18, we have changed our assessment priorities to consider our new City for All strategy, updated building regulations and the changing socio-economic context.
In 2019, Westminster City Council declared a climate emergency and, acknowledging that we need to act fast to protect our environment, all our projects must put sustainability at their heart. Our assessment therefore now includes how each option contributes to our aim to become a carbon-neutral borough by 2040.
We want to deliver high quality new homes
Does the option deliver more good quality, well designed and safe housing that meets modern standards?
We want to ensure the community will benefit from new jobs and investment
Does the option provide new employment opportunities in the local area in the short and long term?
Huguenot House should contribute to the council’s goal of becoming a carbon neutral city by 2040
Does the option achieve high environmental standards, increasing energy efficiency and contributing to the council’s target to make Westminster a carbon neutral city by 2040?
We want to help make residents’ lives better
Does the option benefit the existing community?
Will it allow residents to continue to enjoy their local area for years to come?
Does the option also allow room for the local community to grow?
The option should be deliverable
Does the option achieve value-for-money?
Will it be viable to deliver and maintain?
Is it a good investment of public money?
