Who should apply?
We are looking for a diverse range of multidisciplinary built environment experts who are leading practitioners in their field and will champion excellence in design in Westminster. We will appoint approximately 20 core members and 2 to 3 chairs with expertise in the following areas:
- sustainability and low carbon design, including expertise in circular economy, operational energy and net zero
- retrofitting
- architecture, particularly housing and mixed-use development
- estate regeneration
- greening, biodiversity and ecology
- urban design or public realm
- landscape architecture
- townscape and heritage, working with historic buildings
- inclusive access and design
- transport planning and engineering
- other relevant expertise such as civil/structural engineering, community engagement and public art
You may have expertise across more than one area. We are particularly keen to hear from architects and urban designers who can demonstrate a track record of innovation in low carbon building design.
Successful applicants will have:
- a recognised professional qualification, and membership or eligibility for membership of relevant professional institution
- significant professional experience and demonstrable passion for improving quality of built environment through their chosen specialism
You must also be able to demonstrate:
- an ability to critically appraise development in a positive manner with experience of design review or similar work
- an ability to communicate complex design issues to a range of audiences, both lay and professional
- an understanding of roles played by other professionals, consultants and players in the built environment, including council officers, councillors and community leaders
- an understanding of Westminster’s special context and design considerations as they relate to central London
- a commitment to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion in the built environment and built environment professions.
