Death benefits and Expression of Wish form 

The LGPS provides valuable life cover and financial protection for your family.

Death grant lump sum

If you die in service a death grant lump sum, and a pension for your spouse/partner and any eligible children may be paid. More information about the death grant lump sum.

Dependants' pension

If you die while receiving an LGPS pension, then dependants’ pensions may be paid. There are eligibility criteria around dependants’ pensions that need to be satisfied. More information about dependants' pensions.

If you die with a deferred pension

If you die with a deferred LGPS pension, a death grant lump sum will be paid to your estate or to someone you have nominated. The amount of the death grant depends on when you left the LGPS, by leaving your job, opting out or retiring. More about deferred pension death grants.

Expression of Wish form

The Expression of Wish form can be found on the Member Portal or in our forms and guides section.

City of Westminster Pension Fund retains absolute discretion as to the distribution of any death grant, however if you express a wish or wishes using the Expression of Wish form, your wishes will be considered.
