Crisis or emergency support

In an emergency

Call 999 if you or someone you know experiences a life-threatening medical or mental health emergency. Stay with the person and continue to talk to them if you can. 

If you or the person you are with can keep themselves safe for a short while but is still in need of urgent help:  

  • Dial 111 on your phone and speak to the NHS Mental Health Triage Service. It is free and open 24/7.  

  • Contact your or their GP surgery and ask for an emergency appointment.

People with hearing problems can use the NHS 111 British Sign Language (BSL) service.

The Listening Place

The Listening Place offers free, confidential and ongoing face-to-face support by appointment to people who feel that life is no longer worth living. 

Help can be accessed via website referrals and can be made through professionals, concerned third parties or self-referrals.

Local NHS Single Point of Access helpline

The Single Point of Access is a 24/7 helpline run by trained clinicians in your local area who can offer support and signpost to services.
