Systemic practice model
In 2014, we introduced a systemic practice model across all of the family services in Westminster. Nearly a decade later, systemic practice is well embedded and understood across the system, and our interventions continue to evolve and mature. Family therapy clinics run in most locality teams. Clinicians are embedded in teams, and practitioners are trained in a range of specialist interventions, making the most of working relationships with families and enabling families to create change.
A ‘systemic’ model centres on:
- understanding relationships and how interactions can both foster problems and solve them when considering the context in which they exist
- how they are co-created.
- their strengths and patterns
- responses to problematic situations
- understanding the best ways to intervene to generate lasting change in the lives of families and children.
Supported by a robust systemic practice framework and enriched with clinical insights, our commitment to trauma-informed expertise and cutting-edge interventions such as non-violent resistance, Video Interactive Guidance (VIG), and multi-family therapy makes us a vibrant and innovative hub for social workers to nurture their skills, foster growth, and flourish.
Experienced and highly qualified social workers and other frontline staff value the considerable investment in their professional development.
Manageable workloads enable staff to focus on their practice, reflect on their work and invest in their professional development. They feel supported by managers and value regular and reflective group and individual supervision.
Westminster personalises its corporate parenting responsibilities by regarding children in care as ‘our children’.
